Po'town

Hey haaaaaayyyy!

So I went on my trip upstate yesterday instead of last weekend. I thought it was going to be fun, until I realized that the Metro North isn't air conditioned. In case you didn't know, the Metro North is a train line that runs upstate and through Connecticut, but it is still considered part of the New York City Transit system. Anyway, my trip began in Grand Central Station, where everything is overpriced!! Sure, it is beautiful, but $4 for a bottle of Dasani water? I think not!

When I got on the train, I immediately drank all of my water because I was dying of heat stroke. I spent $30 and had to ride and hour and a half of the worst near-death experience I have ever had. Imagine driving in your car on a 90 degree day with no air, and no windows open. You're dying already, right?!

Once I got to Poughkeepsie, I met up with my friend Jim. Poughkeepsie isn't exactly a walking kind of town, so he had to pick me up from the train station. It was refreshing to actually see trees and grass! There was even an artsy beached whale thing! We went to an actual grocery store, and parked in an actual parking lot! Haha :]

Once I got to Jim's house, I met the love of my life. His name is Prada Hilton, and he has four legs. Aren't we cute?

The train ride home was better- this one was actually air conditioned. Although this time I had to sit in front of a family of four that had apparently never seen water before. Why does the river become more fascinating from the train? I think I would have rather died of heat stroke again...

Work was interesting. It was my first day with my new email address, and one of my bosses is out of town until Tuesday, so my day was spent returning phone calls and answering emails. FUN STUFF! For real.

SCHOOL IS QUICKLY APPROACHING! I have no clue what I'm going to do with myself...

PS- If you are reading this, and you'd like to be added to my email list (I'll let you know every time via email when I update), definitely let me know! I feel like I don't know who all is reading this, and I would love to!!

PEACE.

Tres exciting...

Hey all!

Sooooo... nothing really exciting has happened in the past couple of days. I ended up not going on that train ride upstate yesterday. Instead I went to see my friends' new apartment in Brooklyn. It's really nice, it was just built and all of their neighbors were moving in too. Although I wouldn't ever live there, it's too far of a walk from the subway. It's in Bushwick, so the neighborhood is ALL Puerto Rican. I think it's fun. Puerto Ricans are a riot!

Work is plentiful, which is good! I'm no longer poor! Hahah...

The party that happened at work today was absolutely fabulous! My mom told me today that she might come visit me sometime before the summer ends. YOU SHOULD ALL TELL HER THAT SHE NEEDS TO DO IT!!

My mom is fabulous, and I can't wait until I have enough  money to make her move to New York and be a fabulous rich superstar/wonderwoman.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KRISTEN!

Hey all!

First and foremost... HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE MOST FABULOUS SISTER IN THE WORLD!!

Disappointing news....

I was told this morning that I was going to meet none other than SOULJA BOY! For those of you that don't know Soulja Boy, view the following:

Isn't he great!? haha...
Anyways, we found out that he was coming to Dylan's to shoot an interview for MTV News, and I was really excited because I thought Suchin Pak would be the one to come and interview him. To make a long story short, it turns out that he missed his flight and wasn't able to make it to NYC.

Ok, things I don't understand:
1. You are a rap star
2. Your ONLY job is to wake up in the morning
3. HOW do you miss your flight if you own the plane?!?

Whatever.

After that, I organized all of my space at work and found out that tomorrow when I come in, I get to make phone calls to all the other snotty party spaces in town and find out competitor's pricing! So basically I picture myself spending most of the day on the phone with FAO Schwartz. FAO is a gigantic toy store where stuffed animals cost hundreds of dollars, and they have a giant piano that you can dance on! Here's an old photo of me and Kristen last year with the underpaid doormen:

I also found out that we're going to do a wedding CEREMONY in the store! Yes! Someone is crazy enough to get married in the world's largest candy store! Kudos to you! Their gift table will look something like this:

This has nothing to do with the wedding, but this is my amazing boss Fatima. We have too many inside jokes.

P.S.- Sorry I haven't been able to upload with pictures from the city for a while! Work is consuming! More city pics to come soon! I'm going on a train ride upstate this Friday, so hopefully we'll get some scenic pictures!

Take care =]

Macy's!

Hey all!

So not much happened today. I went in to work and cleaned up my bosses' office a little bit. There haven't been a lot of parties scheduled lately, so I've been looking for odd jobs to do for a bit more on my paycheck!

I got an air conditioner! It is absolutely fabulous. It is constantly around 60 degrees in my room now. I don't understand how I ever lived without one!

I went to Macy's today to do some shopping with money that I don't have. I ended up buying a shirt and some underwear. That store is huge, I would hate to be in charge of loss prevention there...

Mamma Mia! Here I go again!

OH. MY. GOD.

I went to Brooklyn and saw Mamma Mia today! It was so incredibly fabulous, I encourage you all to go out and see it immediately!! Meryl Streep is AMAZING, she reminds me of my mother. Although she is a mess in the movie, she is still fab.

Also: CELEBRITY SIGHTING!!

Daniel Franzese from Mean Girls was in Dylan's today. He signed a mini bin and filled it with candy :]

Feeling HOT HOT HOT

I had a LOOONG night last night, and didn't end up getting out of bed this morning until around 4pm- I AM SO LAZY!

Anyway, I had an eventful day. First, I went to visit my friend John at his work because he just got back from his 2 week vacation to Acapulco!

I am jealous of:
1. people with enough money to vacation
2. John's tan
3. friends with air conditioners. DONATE to my PayPal account so I can buy one!! (xctharrett@yahoo.com)

John works in a high-end vintage shop. High-end enough to let me sit on the custom made cashmere sofa that was on it's way out the door to be shipped to Vienna. Oh, did I mention that it cost a billionaire $300,000. No big deal, right?

After that, I went to check out the grand opening of the new Dylan's Candy Bar. Oh god, our store is WAY TOO BIG now. It was too crazy in there- I couldn't stay long. Pictures soon!

For the rest of my night, I had the pleasure of falling victim to Isaac's bad attitude. We ate at a restaurant in the Village called "Bambeo" (or something like that). Isaac yelled at me for just about everything that was happening from the absence of air conditioning, to the extra cup of salsa we had to order that cost an extra 60 cents. Afterwards, he forced me to sit at an obscene fat-free yogurt shop that smelled like sour milk. Bambeo was definitely an experience. Not sure if I would ever go back. The food was great, but all the servers were severely unprofessional and rude. I have no idea what MSG tastes like, but we decided that there was a lot in our food, because our stomachs had this weird bursting sensation for the next couple of hours.

After leaving Isaac, I found a sexy little coffee shop in SoHo called Think Coffee. I had an iced green tea that was phenomenal, minus the whole situation still happening in my stomach from Bambeo. I will definitely be going back here. It is officially added to my list of places to take you all when you visit!

I hope you all like the new music feature I added to the page! I'm going to try and change the song every day or so. You will love my music. Haha.

Tomorrow I have plans to go to Brooklyn to see Mamma Mia with Hussein & Emma. FABULOUS. I cannot wait to watch another Meryl Streep movie. I might pee my pants.

Brooklyn Heights

Hey people!

Sorry I haven't updated in a few days. Work has been hectic- they did some "downsizing" yesterday, and it feels like I've lost members of my family. Isn't it amazing how close you grow to the people you work with? Downsizing is especially evil, because it happens for no particular reason. Jeeez! When is this economy gonna get going!?!

My friend Hussein bought a new apartment in Brooklyn, so I went to visit him yesterday and go shopping for new furniture. We discovered that Jennifer Convertibles is like a car dealership. If you act like you're going to leave, they will give you a better deal! Haha...

This weekend should be interesting... I have off work, and no money again! I sense a post with lots of great pictures! My dad sent me my rollerblades in the mail, and I got them today. I'm going to go exploring on rollerblades!! Should be fun!

This is the view from the end of Hussein's street, isn't it TO DIE FOR!?

IKEA.... again!

Hey all!

So Isaac and I decided to go to IKEA again today, because we can't get enough of it! haha....

although you all saw my trip on the water taxi and IKEA in my last post.... we were able to sneak out onto a pier that was closed this time to take pictures of the sunset. It was absolutely beautiful, I wish I could have bottled it and sent it back to all of you!

Enjoy the pictures! New York misses you!!'

Downtown & the Statue of Liberty

Today I decided to go see the Statue of Liberty- even though I feel like it's the most over-rated tourist attraction in New York. It's seriously not that big. I remember the first time that Kristen and I went to see it, we couldn't find it for a couple of minutes because we were expecting it to be some towering monument.

Anyway, I stopped for a quick second at the World Trade Center Site... they've put barricades all up over the sides of the streets and have employed traffic cops to stand at every 5 feet along the fence and have given them the overbearing power of having whistles. You think that when the government executes the largest planned demolition/murder in history, they would at least let us see where it happened. Why can't we see in there? I smell foul play...

I walked around downtown for a little bit before I hopped on the water taxi to IKEA Brooklyn! I absolutely love riding this thing! The store hasn't been opened for a month yet, and I bet I have been on this thing at least 10 times! It's the best free ride EVER!

After IKEA, I had a few friends over to celebrate the fact that we didn't have enough money to go anywhere else! Haha. We learned to never walk barefoot on the roof again, I have no clue what rooftops are made of, BUT IT IS VERY DIRTY!!

Me and my friend Emma, isn't she gorgeous?!

A Walk in Central Park...

So today I had a day off and absolutely no money, so I decided that a walk through the park was the best way to go! Some of the most intriguing people can be found in the park... the police shoo them off of the streets. I met up with my friend Isaac. He was excited because the new iPhone came out today and we went to go buy it. I was excited because once he gets the new iPhone, he's going to give me his old one =]. Once we got to the Apple Store, there was a line that literally spanned more than 12 blocks, and the man at the door told us that there was at least a 2 DAY WAIT to get inside... even if we weren't planning on buying the iPhone. I guess I'll have to wait for my iPhone =[....

I ended up in Barnes & Noble and I bought 2 cookbooks: Essentials of Northern Africa, and Mexican Cooking at the Academy. Hopefully I'll be posting soon with some interesting food stories.... haha.

Hope all is well with everyone! Love you all!!

My Room

So even though I feel extremely lazy today, I promised that I would post pictures of my room. So here they are!

... and the rooftop! I realized once I got up there that I sort of over-glorified it in last night's post. OH WELL, at least I have one!!

My Apartment

Hey everyone!

So today wasn't really that eventful. I had to go to work early (around 9 am), so I was naturally irritated when I had to wake up. I ended up going to bed at 3 am because I had been watching "The Devil Wears Prada" in Spanish. I feel like a lot of emotion is lost when movies are translated, but oh well. It was still fierce. I hope to become fluent in Spanish within the next year; it's essential in New York. Maybe I'll buy Rosetta Stone...

It was CRAZY hot/humid here today. I almost stripped down to my underwear on 3rd Ave. because it was 82 degrees with 63% humidity. According to the weather channel, it felt like 90, but according to me, it felt like death. Luckily there was a Starbucks nearby that had the AC cranked to Antarctic conditions.

Anywho, I know that you are all DYING to finally see pictures of my apartment!!! I've lived here for a little over a month now (although my first rent payment felt like I had owed backed rent for years), and the only person who has seen it is Kristen, when she helped me move in. Bear with me, the pictures were taken in haste because the neighbors were sitting on their stoop and seemed irritated with me (is it illegal to sit on someone else's stoop? If so, I should report them for being creeps).

my door is on the left!!

... and some of the inside!!

Forgive me for not posting pictures of my actual room. It is a disaster zone in desperate need of professional organization. Don't worry, it will give me something to post tomorrow. And you haven't even seen the rooftop view yet! OH. MY. GOD. I can't wait to post tomorrow =]

Mama Frye's Fabulous 50!

This past Saturday night, I met the second most fabulous woman EVER (the first is obviously my mother =]). My boss ended up throwing a party for her mom's 50th birthday party, and she was worried that it was going to be a disaster. Needless to say, I was there, so the party turned out to be the greatest thing that had ever happened in the Western Hemisphere.

We started the party by sending the rest of the staff home. In case you didn't know what I do, I am a Party Lead for Dylan's Candy Bar: the world's largest candy store!

After the alcohol started flowing, we dimmed the lights, and things started getting crazy! I believe that at some point during the night, Mama Frye actually produced a couple of Flashdance performances. It was great!

Me and my boss, Nicole.

My other boss, Therese.

This woman is 50 years old: I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT! I didn't think people of that age could be so active! I guess she has been a dancer her whole life, and starts everyday with a kickboxing class. GOD BLESS THIS WOMAN! She is workin' it out well into her 50's!

Speaking of 50's, MY mothers' 52nd birthday is TODAY. Doesn't she look fabulous?!
