Revolver

I guess Madonna is coming out with a new album?

That's great, it's always nice to teach an old dog new tricks. Kudos!

It's supposed to be a "rock" album? What's up with that? Clearly I need more information before I make a decision. Ambiguity is one of the many things I love about my Madge, but "rock?" Really?

You can't have your cake and eat it to (under these circumstances). Why don't we make one choice and stick with it…

New Job

Hey everyone!

I start my new job tomorrow! I am super excited, and now hopefully I will have the proper balance of things to do, and spare time :) I feel like before now, so much of my time was spent either job-searching or stressing out about something, that now I will be able to focus my time on one thing, and be able to better manage my free time.

I also moved to Brooklyn while I was away— a good enough excuse for why I haven't updated in so long! I'm not planning on being here for as long as I was at my other place, it was just a temporary fix for my roommate situation at my last place. I'm hoping to get a studio or one bedroom somewhere after this, I have just decided that I don't live well with other people...

I also started eating healthier! I'm eating mainly vegetarian now, just because it makes me feel better about myself. I am still eating some meat, but it definitely doesn't consume a mass part of my diet. I have made the switch to tofu and am officially LOVING it! I eat only organic fruits and veggies, and my body and mood have started to show signs of improvement because of it :)

Hopefully the next time I check in with you all, I'll have news just as good. I hope all of you are doing wonderful, leave comments and let me know what's been up in your life!

Peace =]

Acceptance

I have decided today that I am too judgmental.

I went for my first time last night to the LGBT Center here in the city to volunteer. I have always wanted to volunteer, and have just figured that now would be the best time to do it. I was the proud wristband-putter-on-er for a new play that the Center was hosting called "Loaded". I didn't quite catch what it was about. From the crowd, I gather that it is about a young boy and an older man that fall in love after being fuck buddies for quite some time. Whatever.

The people that I was working side-by-side with, I realized, I would have easily made fun of had I seen them on the street. Patrick was wearing all second-hand clothes, and had on a bright yellow suede suit jacket. Allen was wearing a funny baret, and a plaid shirt that was probably bought in a corner bodega. Because none of my friends were with me, I was forced to not only hold back from pointing out their flaws, but talk to them, and realize that I have missed probably some of the most interesting people in my lifetime because I was too busy obsessing over how they looked.

Time after time, someone with a funny hat, or a seemingly homeless person would walk in the front doors; they were greeted just the same as everyone that walked in before and after them: with a smile. There were so many people walking around the Center, and there was no hate. It was such a neutral zone, that I feel like I want to go back every day.

I met a transgender individual. His name was Dave. It was absolutely amazing to see everyone talking and laughing and smiling with Dave, and Dave's gender was the last thing on their mind.

The Center definitely gave me a reality check last night. I'm not to sure yet, maybe they are all just social degenerates that accept each other because they have no one else. Or maybe, there really are people this loving left in the world. Either way, I feel like I need more of it.

LENKA

Hey all-

VERY exciting news! Basically the reason why I haven't updated in so long:

Sony BMG and Epic Records signed a new artist! Her name is Lenka, and she kinda sounds like Regina Spektor, but totallly better. Anyway, they decided to hold her record release party at Dylan's! It was absolutely awesome!

Our entire third floor was transformed into a music venue, and I got to meet Lenka herself, her entourage, and even the CEO of Epic Records! It was absolutely nuts!! Here are some pictures:

This is her new single, CHECK IT OUT!!

Katie moves in!

Hey all :]

What a busy weekend!!

Basically my entire weekend was consumed by work, and helping my best friend Katie move in to her new apartment! She just got this beautiful high rise apartment on the 14th floor of a beautiful building with a view of the river that is to die for!! She even has a balcony! Katie's mom recruited a man off of the street to do our heavy lifting for us... hahah. That was an adventure! I went with her to drop the rental van off downtown, and remembered why I will never drive in NYC.

We discovered a really great restaurant right by her, and I tried motza for the first time! OH. MY. GOD. It is SO GOOD! I swear, ever since I had it, I've been eating it up at work like it's the last thing I'll ever have (except the motza at work is covered in chocolate... probably not so good!). I encourage you all to go out and try motza! It's delicious! ALSO, make sure you experiement cooking with cumin powder... it's some of the best stuff I've had!

Work has been absolutely amazing. I now have new responsibilities, meaning that I am there A LOT more than I used to be! I love it though, because I absolutely LOVE my job. I seriously think that as each day goes by, I realize more and more that I have the most amazing job in the world. I feel blessed, because not many people are able to say the same. I never liked kids until I started working this job, and now I can't wait to see them every day!!

Downtown & the Statue of Liberty

Today I decided to go see the Statue of Liberty- even though I feel like it's the most over-rated tourist attraction in New York. It's seriously not that big. I remember the first time that Kristen and I went to see it, we couldn't find it for a couple of minutes because we were expecting it to be some towering monument.

Anyway, I stopped for a quick second at the World Trade Center Site... they've put barricades all up over the sides of the streets and have employed traffic cops to stand at every 5 feet along the fence and have given them the overbearing power of having whistles. You think that when the government executes the largest planned demolition/murder in history, they would at least let us see where it happened. Why can't we see in there? I smell foul play...

I walked around downtown for a little bit before I hopped on the water taxi to IKEA Brooklyn! I absolutely love riding this thing! The store hasn't been opened for a month yet, and I bet I have been on this thing at least 10 times! It's the best free ride EVER!

After IKEA, I had a few friends over to celebrate the fact that we didn't have enough money to go anywhere else! Haha. We learned to never walk barefoot on the roof again, I have no clue what rooftops are made of, BUT IT IS VERY DIRTY!!

Me and my friend Emma, isn't she gorgeous?!

A Walk in Central Park...

So today I had a day off and absolutely no money, so I decided that a walk through the park was the best way to go! Some of the most intriguing people can be found in the park... the police shoo them off of the streets. I met up with my friend Isaac. He was excited because the new iPhone came out today and we went to go buy it. I was excited because once he gets the new iPhone, he's going to give me his old one =]. Once we got to the Apple Store, there was a line that literally spanned more than 12 blocks, and the man at the door told us that there was at least a 2 DAY WAIT to get inside... even if we weren't planning on buying the iPhone. I guess I'll have to wait for my iPhone =[....

I ended up in Barnes & Noble and I bought 2 cookbooks: Essentials of Northern Africa, and Mexican Cooking at the Academy. Hopefully I'll be posting soon with some interesting food stories.... haha.

Hope all is well with everyone! Love you all!!

My Apartment

Hey everyone!

So today wasn't really that eventful. I had to go to work early (around 9 am), so I was naturally irritated when I had to wake up. I ended up going to bed at 3 am because I had been watching "The Devil Wears Prada" in Spanish. I feel like a lot of emotion is lost when movies are translated, but oh well. It was still fierce. I hope to become fluent in Spanish within the next year; it's essential in New York. Maybe I'll buy Rosetta Stone...

It was CRAZY hot/humid here today. I almost stripped down to my underwear on 3rd Ave. because it was 82 degrees with 63% humidity. According to the weather channel, it felt like 90, but according to me, it felt like death. Luckily there was a Starbucks nearby that had the AC cranked to Antarctic conditions.

Anywho, I know that you are all DYING to finally see pictures of my apartment!!! I've lived here for a little over a month now (although my first rent payment felt like I had owed backed rent for years), and the only person who has seen it is Kristen, when she helped me move in. Bear with me, the pictures were taken in haste because the neighbors were sitting on their stoop and seemed irritated with me (is it illegal to sit on someone else's stoop? If so, I should report them for being creeps).

my door is on the left!!

... and some of the inside!!

Forgive me for not posting pictures of my actual room. It is a disaster zone in desperate need of professional organization. Don't worry, it will give me something to post tomorrow. And you haven't even seen the rooftop view yet! OH. MY. GOD. I can't wait to post tomorrow =]
